I share a bit of my old designs, two of my favorite Aeropaper’s blog design and wee bit of my internet and web design history. Yes, just a glimpse if I write it down it will be TL;DR and you wouldn’t want that.

I share a bit of my old designs (two of my favorite Aeropaper’s blog design) and wee bit of my internet and web design history. Yes, just a glimpse if I write it down it will be TL;DR and you wouldn’t want that.

I guess it was a week ago or so, I’m sorting my files when I noticed all those caps I saved (shame some were lost). It’s kinda nostalgic to see my designs. I spent hours on those; created out of pure passion of making sites and the subject it was about. I believe I’ve been doing sites for more than a decade already (and it doesn’t show, right? HAHA). I loved creating fansites/fanlistings. I love web designs! One of my biggest passion in life (well, coding is good and all but I continuously have a love & hate relationship with it). And then I learned that my former sites were indexed (archived) in the internets (like why?). I’m actually quite embarrassed to know that they are there and probably will be there forever LOL. :sweatdrop:

Sample of my old site: these four were my former domain’s designs. a.s. studios was my old domain. These sites were more than 5-6 years ago. (Images © Aya Nakahara/Shueisha, IU/LEON, Ai Otsuka/Avex Trax, Atsushi Okubo/Gangan Comics)

My very first site was a geocities site (veterans know this ancient free server) and it was fansite for Fruits Basket (I love Fruits Basket so much then I needed to create one). It had WYSWIG editor so it was easy to learn. But it felt restricting so I decided to learn more about HTML/CSS. I knew the basic already because of this social media site for otaku that required basic HTML knowledge to personalize your profile. Little by little I learn to code, then design. It might be simple but for me it was really satisfying.

When goecities closed, I hope around free servers (bravenet, freewebs etc.). Then one time a person approached me and told me she (I think we were from the same community and she said she liked my sites) will host me for free—like private server and the shebang. Of course I said yes and this is where my knowledge expanded because I have free rein on my sites. I decided to buy a domain (skycircus is my third domain btw), create more sites and built friendship. I’m still acquainted with these people.

Former Aeropaper’s design. These two are my favorite so far (the one on the left is my all time favorite (took almost two years before I replaced it)

I think webdesign is something that will be with me for many years to come. I’ve witnessed few evolutions of the internet over years so far. The trends were really different from before but it had charm that even sometimes I even missed it (active internet user for loooooong time). But it’s nice to see how much it changed, things became slicker, (user) friendlier, and overall amazing. :loves:

  1. I’m always amazed that people manage to create websites and designs :) You always come up with beautiful ones!

Even your old designs were freaking gorgeous! <333 You really have to teach me how you get inspired to make these designs, because I don't get inspired easily, sadly.

Omg, curious: what does A.S. stand for?? I really love the second design for it. You had a thing for pink and monochrome even back then, haha! And I love your current design for Aeropapers, but I agree, the first one is pretty damn beautiful, too. I think that was the design I saw when I first stumbled across your blog. I remember being super afraid to leave a comment because your blog looked so pretty and professional, lol. Then you changed it to another design (I think it was the one before this current one), and I just had to say something. Oh, the memories… xD

I definitely hope you continue sticking to web design, Mitchii! Your designs just never fail to wow me. <3

What are you talking about young lady? You work so fast and comes out so pretty! xD

It’s ash snow, that’s the name of domain before I regrettably let it go. It was? Haha, should have said hello! I was told I kinda looked intimidating but I’m the one who is actually intimidated. :P

  3. I totally feel you when you find out your site suddenly vanished. I used to create a crap ton of fansites for my favorite celebrities when I was in middle school (i.e. Ashley Tisdale, Miranda Cosgrove, Vanessa Hudgens) and I loved creating graphic sites where I post the layouts, back ground codes, etc. THEN I found out that my sites were gone (I should have known that)because the website that I created my site in (piczo.com) is no longer active :(

  4. Mitchii! I love all your designs so much. And your favourite Aeropapers one … I think I saw that one! Seriously, I have loved every single one of your designs that I have ever seen – including these ones. I am so glad you went into web design because you are incredibly talented, and everything you make is so freaking beautiful! <3

As for Fruits Basket – yay! That was one of the first mangas that I really got into. Although I wasn't 100% happy with the ending :(

    • Mitchii G. says:

I’m so happy I tried it, too. I didn’t it know this hobby can be very productive. Design is such fun thing for me to do. xD

Really, I loved it! Why though? Don’t tell you are Yuki fan?! :P

  5. Don’t stop designing, Mitchii! You are (I’m being completely honest here) my favorite web designer thus far. All of your stuff’re adorable, sleek and elegant. <3

  6. You really shouldn’t feel embarrassed by your old designs! I’ve been learning html/css for a long time but I doubt I’ll even be able to make anything that looks as cool and unique as your designs! You’re so creative.

    • Mitchii G. says:

It takes lots of practice & even though I’ve been doing it for so many years, honestly my progress is quite slow compare to others. But I made them with everything I got! <3

  7. Kezia says:

Finally it’s the weekend and I can visit your blog >< My tests are almost over! *fist pump*

Omg more than a decade?? Now I really wonder what your age is O_O I can't believe you're older than mid-twenties! You certainly don't sound that old. (Take this as a compliment haha!)

But your experience really shows, Mitchii! Look at all the beautiful sites you've created! Yours, Emily's and Chiara's are a few examples! When I first stumbled upon your blog, it had the design on the left! I'm just glad I get to witness the evolution of your site haha. XD

  8. Mitchii G. says:

I am! (here’s a clue: I’m younger than Kaji Yuuki but older than Hanae Natsuki! ^^)

Thank you. I really love web design and still find it mind blowing that people ask me to design their blog. That itself is amazing. >//<

  9. Shannelle C. says:

I’m waiting for the day when I can afford one of your designs because MITCHIIIIII

  10. I loove your designs! <3 They're so purrrty. I can't wait to see what you do with Mel's blog. I actually might enlist your services, because I want to switch to self-hosted WordPress. My blog now is all me, self-taught, so you can see the (many) glitches and crap. I feel like it's crappy, but that could just be me b/c all I see are the things I need to fix and ahh! that's why I think I need some help getting things simpler and smoother and just more professional looking.

We'll be in touch! I'd love if you could swing by my blog and see if you have any inspiration? If so I'd love to have you design my switch. <3
