Would you describe your experience as a book blogger difficult?

bookish-verbosity

Bookish Verbosity is a non-regular feature at AEROPAPERS where I talk about topics that are related to books, blogging, and the book community.

This question was prompted by a tweet, I think it said: ‘blogging is hard.’ And I automatically asked myself a question: ‘is book blogging hard for me?’ Honestly, hard or difficult are one of those adjectives that I rarely describe with book blogging. But if it really necessary to answer that, I’m gonna say…no! But with that answer doesn’t mean that blogging for me is effortless. It needs tons of effort and time to maintain so basically it’s not easy. But to associate the words difficult and hard which for me is negative sounds off. I describe a math equation hard to the point of me wanting to tear the test paper to pieces (I hate Math, which is ironic since my mom is Math teacher). Going to work that you don’t like is hard. Doing something you don’t like is hard. These scenarios have one thing in common: I don’t like what I’m doing it. It’s hard for me to continue if my heart’s not in it, hence the difficulty.

But so far I have yet to experience that with book blogging. It’s not easy, that’s a fact. I don’t see myself always creative and prepared; but bumps here and there didn’t take away the fun of it. Yes,  I have to prepare my content. I need to make sure my blog is functioning properly. I need to come up interesting post, etc. etc. So no, it’s not easy but it’s not difficult either. Because I’m contented and optimistic with it! And every time I post a content, every time someone comment on my post whether it’s bajillion people or just one; or just to see some people reading my content whenever my statistic report emails me every month—the appreciation somehow makes it easy. But more than the extrinsic factors that I get from it, book blogging simply makes me happy.

You know, the only time I’m going to describe blogging hard or difficult if I’m pressuring myself to do it; if I’m not happy anymore and I’m just forcing myself to continue. Those things will make it hard for me. And because I love what I do and happy with it, my experience is positive. As I said, I give tons of effort, I devote a lot of time, I even spend money on it, but no, it is still not hard. For me, if I think that I feel like I’m pushing myself to do it, time to sort my objectives. And if that time that I’m now associating it a negative light, then perhaps, that’s where the problems lie.

So it’s your turn bookish peeps, would you ever describe blogging hard? If yes, why? Do you have tips to help struggling bloggers; care to share it?

  1. Wesley says:

I won’t say hard, but I will say it’s time consuming and something that takes up a lot of thought (thought-full? lol. Im sure there’s a word I’m looking for but it’s Friday and my brain has given up)

    • Mitchii G. says:

It’s not only time consuming but you need to put your best creative effort forward. But if you’re happy with what you’re doing, I think it’s a great reward with all the effort you put into it. :D Thanks Wesley.

  2. Annie says:

I don’t think book blogging is hard but it definitely takes a lot of work and effort! I mean, it may be a challenge for some people but for me, I don’t think it’s hard! It’s not anything I CAN’T do or anything that is totally out of my box. But I also think that it’s not hard for me because of the mindset I came into blogging with that I’ve kept and that’s not treating it as anything more than a hobby. Of course I have commitments within blogging but it’s definitely not first priority and not something that I should feel pressured to do. If I have to take time off because I’m not finding myself as invested in it as I was, then I shall!

    • Mitchii G. says:

Yeah, if you follow the style you’re comfortable with then it’s not hard. I think the problem is pushing yourself to do something to the point it makes you frustrated and in the process makes it difficult.

  3. I don’t think blogging is necessarily hard. I think that finding the TIME to blog is the harder thing! Especially for those who actually want to put their heart and soul into their content and blog. I definitely thinks that blogging takes a lot of work if you really care about your blog but it’s not hard when you love it. <3

    • Mitchii G. says:

Yes, time is really our number one enemy here, but like you said when you love you’ll make time for it. To me, it’s not about how creative the post is, the sincerity of sharing is what matters.

  4. I am happy reading books and it will always stays that way. What I am bothered with my effort in blogging. Sure this is a hobby that I came to love over the one year course of my blog’s existence, but lately it’s been (((hard?))) for me. Time is my number one enemy. College college college. ::D< HAHA

    • Mitchii G. says:

I think the frequency of post doesn’t make a blogger successful. I think if you’re satisfied with your style, whether posting once a month or every day doesn’t matter. If you’re hearts truly in it then it’s not hard (well, it’s not).

PRETTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TYPOGRAPHY. I’m sorry but I had to get that out there it’s so pretty where did you get all those decorations me want.

And I definitely don’t think blogging is hard in terms of it’s frustrating. Getting dedicated readers might be hard and building a large audience. But blogging itself definitely isn’t. The are asects of book blogging that might be hard, but that’s because those things are dependent on other people. Blogging itself is absolutely easy, unless it’s hard for someone to write their thoughts out.

    • Mitchii G. says:

I got it from dafont.com (the font name is bergamot ornaments). :D I think the things the we depend on others makes it difficult. If you’re the type of blogger who is more concern on pleasing others rather than enjoying it, then yes, it is really difficult.

  7. Alice says:

Got to agree with you, I find blogging in-between easy and difficult. Mostly, the difficult part is getting started, once I have it’s mostly easy as – like you- I enjoy it.

  8. I think book blogging is hard as you make it! Is that an acceptable answer? lol. I mean, personally speaking, it’s hard for me only because I put pressure on myself to create the best posts possible and respond to all the comments and to do all the things. I enjoy it all, I do, but at a certain point it sort of becomes work because I don’t stop at that enjoyment level but keep pushing to do more, more, more because that’s just my personality. It’s why I sort of crashed with my personal blog at the end of the last year and kept feeling like a bad blogger. It wasn’t because anyone made me feel that way or I wasn’t doing enough, I just was making it hard on myself. Luckily this whole new group blog thing has helped in that way. I’m still holding myself to the same expectations, but others are helping me carry the burden.

Silly me for making it so hard on myself :P

    • Mitchii G. says:

Yes, it is! I really think that bloggers often push themselves too much, it exhaust them and drains away their enthusiasm. Sometimes we need to take it easy! I’m glad the co-blogging works for you Asti. :D

  9. Nikki @ The Paper Sea says:

Agree wholeheartedly with this post! Blogging is definitely a challenge, and some days overcoming the challenge isn’t as easy as others, but there will always be a time when I want to give it a go again.

  10. Finley Jayne says:

Challenging and sometimes frustrating, yes. Hard, no :) I just switched to WP from Blogger and that definitely was both challenging and frustrating lol. But, I had a lot of fun doing it as well, and I’m happy with how much I’ve learned through the process!

  11. Julie S. says:

It is all about balance. If you take on too much, then it becomes difficult to keep up. But find the right balance, and book blogging is a fun hobby :)

    • Mitchii G. says:

You’re right Julie. Sometimes all it take is to balance our time and try not push ourselves to our limits that may easily tire us in this hobby. Thanks!

  12. At the end of the day, blogging, whether or not it’s book blogging or any other type of blogging, is what you make of it. It can be hard, if you make it hard. There are challenges, but I think the challenges can be ultimately rewarding. Creating original content and keeping your blog fresh can be frustrating but it’s so fun when you figure out something new. There are times when I can’t balance it all– blogging, school, personal life, etc and I’m okay with it.

  13. This is such a great post – so glad I was pointed here. I think most of the time people tweet/say things like that as justification for receiving books from publishers…but the distinction you make is important. It’s not hard. It takes effort and time, which can also be used as justification for the books we receive, but saying that it’s hard makes it sound like a miserable task.

  16. It’s not hard, but it’s definitely time consuming! It’s more work than people might think – but I still love every minute I put into blogging. I guess when people say that it’s hard, is because they make it hard on themselves :) Like: there is no one telling you, you should post every day. So if that makes blogging hard for you, post less.
